Topic: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

Those of you who have been to my place know that I've currently got an abomination of a futon sofa frame.. The thing was great when I got it but it's broken quickly due to it being part metal and easily bent. The back of the frame now sags almost to the floor... The futon itself isn't a problem, and still rather comfy. I've had it with the damn futon frame and plan to either get a real sofa or a better frame as soon as bills are paid this month. I'm going to try to keep it around $300, $400 tops.

What I've scoped out so far:

The IKEA "LILLBERG" $299.00

I think my parent's have 2 of these futon frames and they seem to be great (pay no attention to the ugly futon cover):
Berkeley from cottonwoodfutons.com $279

Not sure if there are any good local stores that won't cost an arm and a leg... I'll have to look a bit.

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

We have a futon similar to the Berkeley one and it's actually pretty comfortable. (We also have one of those ghetto steel frame ones with a thin ass mattress which sucks in either configuration!) You may be able to find a real sofa  for a reasonable amount of money if you shop around at some of the local furniture places.

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

i think that ikea one would fit well in your house. And they usually manage to pack those things into really small boxes, so i dont think shipping would cost to much

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

Yes for the price I may get the IKEA, plus I can fold the futon I've got now into a little seat under the window. Nothing interesting yet on Craigslist. http://tricities.craigslist.org/fua/

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

Found some helpful reviews of the IKEA sofa above, doesn't sound too durable (it's a low-end sofa):

I like the style of this one, but it's a bit more expensive than I want to spend right now:

Found some good prices on JCPenney.com Sofas.

Jada Slipcovered Sofa $479 from JCPenney

Custom Kris Sofa $599.00 from JCPenney I like the style of this one. It would be the very most I could see myself spending on a sofa right now.

Again, I'd highly recommend going to some local furniture places. Not only can you (sometimes) get some good deals but you can see if they're actually comfortable as well as having an appealing look. wink Only down side is having to deal with the damned sales people...

Yes I plan to check the local stores before I seriously look online. I plan to check Ashley's furniture, Sears, and JCPenney. I may also look into some smaller furniture stores.

Here's one suggested to me on Twitter: http://tinyurl.com/87jh3q A bit more expensive though...

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

I bought a sofa yesterday! However due to store inventory and my lack of a truck I won't be getting it until Friday when Diane's dad can help.

I got it from Ashley Furniture as a showroom clearance deal for 40% off, so I spent just over $500 (with tax) for a nearly $1000 sofa (very close after tax I'm sure). It actually cost less than the other sofa I was thinking about from a factory warehouse store. It's got a fold-out sleeper also as an added bonus.

Since it's pleather it should be cat hair resistant. Our cat (Gir) isn't really a scratcher either so I shouldn't have to worry about that. It's actually very soft (you wouldn't guess by looking at it) and the lumbar support makes it very comfy. I can't wait to play some games on this sofa. big_smile

Next I need a cool coffee table and maybe an IKEA entertainment center to complete my contemporary living room.

That's a very nice sofa!

"Kezia, my darling, please never forget this world's got the substance of a frozen summer silhouette," Said my mother through lips that were cracked with love and toil before she added, "the warmest of blankets is six feet of soil"

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

I have couch envy.

In the beginning The Universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad idea.

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

It was the most ghetto part of my living room... I think I put off buying a good sofa for too long, and it's the most expensive part of a living room. Next up for an upgrade are the old coffee table and $20 Walmart entertainment center (it does the job but isn't too classy).

Re: Shopping for new Sofa (suggestions/feedback welcome)

Ok the sofa above isn't exactly what I got.

Our cat GIR has already picked his spot on the new sofa.
